A unique retelling of The Little Mermaid in a modern setting that deals with the toxic struggles of anxiety and depression.
Trigger warning for those who deal with these issues
While at times this book was an intense read but it also gently led the reader through healing and understanding how to deal with trauma. I enjoyed the surprising style of storytelling, shifting from our Little Mermaid to a young woman struggling with thoughts of suicide, to a boy who just wants to help is little sister get better.
The fairytale inspiration, along with the practical journey of someone dealing with the aftermath of deep loss, weaves a beautiful story of encouragement and recovery. If you love the original tragic tale of the little mermaid, or you know the struggles of mental health, this is a book I highly recommend!
