Book Review: Echo Nova

Illegal rooftop racing is all that Dash Keane has to live for. Determined to get him and his disabled brother out of the Dregs, Dash does everything he can to become an interweb star. When an act of kindness costs him his racing career, Dash thinks he’s doomed to poverty and normalcy. That os until one of his videos attracts a producer who promises him a position as a timestar. Something like this has never crossed Dash’s risk-taking mind, but he can’t pass up an opportunity to be in a show where fame and fortune, but sometimes death, are a possibility. He will have enough money to help his brother and their parents out of the Dregs. All he has to do is fight pirates, or Samurai, or dinosaurs, or even cowboys, whatever the fans demand! This rooftop racer will soon discover that his luck may have turned, but it will be at the cost of others.

Clint Hall is a master of the all-you-can-eat buffet of writing! Just like his novel Steal Fire from the Gods, Echo Nova is hard to pin down into one category. Is it sci-fi? Fantasy? Dystopian? How about all the above? We have anti-gravity shoes, power blasters, dino riding heroes, along with ancient Samurai training and cowboy gun-slinging classes. What’s not to love?

Though this book is not geared to any gender, I believe the male audience will devour this and lick the plate clean. It felt like a seven-year-old boy was telling his dad all his favorite things and then dad went and made an epic novel out of them, which, according to the dedication, might be just how this book was born. If you love action-packed but meaningful storytelling, pre-order Echo Nova now!
