Clanless and outcast Brighid fights to make an honest living, as much as a woman without a family can. Winter’s harsh bite shatters Brighid when the woman who has been a mother to her succumbs to the cold. To break free from this path leading to death itself, which Brighid can sense, she competes in a competition that earns her a position in the Nordic army. She becomes one of their fiercest fighters but begins to realize there is a darker power at work.
If you love Vikings and Norse mythology, you will love this story! Brighid’s heart-wrenching story and her fight against the injustice of being clanless is entertaining and empowering. My only complaint is this felt like a huge build-up to book two, and though it didn’t end on a cliffhanger, it still felt like I missed the climax. Other than that, great writing!
